This course, presented in an efficient, condensed format, that will accelerate your development of single note picking technique, ear training, chord vocabulary, theory, reading and writing music, jazz soloing and comping ideas, scales and a vocabulary of jazz phrases with an emphases on creative music.
One advantage of doing workshops and Skype lessons is working one on one with guitarists that want to improve their playing. Of course I see their weaknesses but I also look for their strengths to build on them.
Many of my students are transitioning into jazz from rock and blues. Some have played for years and others haven't played long but are drawn to jazz guitar. The interaction with them gets me thinking about my own development and how I got to where my playing is today. I have to say, "I took the long road!" It was usually hit or miss, trial and error and just putting one foot in front of the other. This gave me the desire to organize studies by their importance and present them in the manner and order that I wish I would have learned them. I should have titled this course, "IF I HAD IT TO DO ALL OVER AGAIN, THIS IS WHAT I'D DO!"
I spent a lot of time working on concepts that I later altered or threw out all together. Many times I subscribed to a complex view of jazz music that was ultimately unnecessary. "The Right Stuff" trims the fat and fluff and narrows it down to the nitty gritty with a focus on making improvised music. It gives you the tools and ears to be the best all around jazz guitar player you can be in the shortest amount of time, producing the maximum result for the time spent.
This is an evolving course, a work in progress and is open to suggestions and ideas from you, the student. I hope you will join me on this endeavor so we can both be elevated. Thoughout the course Iwill suggest other lesson videos should you want to expand on the presented ideas.
I've heard it said that a successful life is a series of successful days. So what is a successful day? I've come to believe its a day that makes the following days easier and better for you or someone else.
It's my desire that the "The Right Stuff" will give you many productive guitar playing days and make your quest for jazz guitar easier and more fun.
